NEW FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH: BOOKS

TABOO: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We're Afraid to Talk About It.

By Jon Entine. PublicAffairs.

As an Emmy-winning producer, Jon Entine caused quite a stir in 1989 when he, along with NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw, did a news documentary titled "Black Athletes: Fact and Fiction." In Taboo, Entine draws on the latest scientific research and addresses all the major sports to show persuasively why biology and ancestry are significant components of the stunning rise of black athletes. Whether or not the reader buys his arguments about human biodiversity, the book does provide an excellent history of blacks in sports.
